Its the day of the “RAPTURE” (May 21,2011) and I’m playing bingo, lol the story of my life. I arrived at this “secret venue” around 9pm , thinking it was just an ordinary bar with bingo players enjoying themselves. Boy was I wrong! When I entered, I mistakenly said “I’m here for rebel bingo”. The bouncers looked at each other like I was not ready and my friend replied” we are here for the prayer meeting“. He looked at me with a condescending stare like ” dude, shut your mouth, your gonna get us killed”. I shut my mouth, and walked into this grudgy place which crowded with beautiful women with crosses around their necks! WOW! This was truly a secret underground party and I was ready to experience “Rebel Bingo”.
The crowd was very diverse, everyone looking at each other wondering how the other found out about this well kept secret. Panda suits were being sold in the corner by young college aged women dressed as nuns. These nuns were obviously not virgins or celibate! After enjoying the ambiance, all the partiers and bingo players had to congregate behind a curtain. This curtain separated the bar from the party/bingo floor. As soon as the curtain opened, everyone rushed to the stage it revealed and got ready for the party to begin.
As the party started, a crazy man and very sexually inclined woman hosted the games. As the numbers were called, she rhymed each number with a “freestyled” sexual phrase. When a person won, the signature song was played and a prize was given out. After each game (4 games altogether), a 20-30 minute party intermission in sued. These intermissions consisted of making out, drug taking (mainly MDMA and coke), drinking, dancing and drawing on other people with the markers used for bingo. This was definitely a bash!
This was definitely a new and fun experience. It was crazy! I personally didn’t like the theme, mainly because I get freaked out by religious themes, especially if it is supposedly on the day “that the world was supposed to end”. I felt that since it was in New York City, the party could have lasted a bit longer. The party lasted until 1 am and the local bars usually close between 4am and 6 am. I thought that since it was an “underground” party, it should have lasted until everyone was passed out. Overall this party was good but could have been so much better!
