College Students Will Spend Over $400 Billion In 2013-2014 Academic Year
Currently, there are an estimated 22 million college students in the United States. That number is more than the population of Florida and New York, respectively. According to research released by MobileYouth, this group will spend around $404 billion for this academic year. This means that college students in the US spend more money than the majority of US brands make. In fact, only Apple has more money–$416 billion. If college students pooled their money, they could “buy Walmart and still have enough money left over to buy an island for Spring Break.”
Aside from tuition, school supplies, and boarding students spend about $42 billion on food, $17.5 billion on their cars which includes gas, and around $13 billion on clothes.
