NYU: YOU WERE WRONG MOM!! I CAN GET A DEGREE IN VIDEO GAMES!

I know, you thought your frat-bro boyfriend was majoring in this, with his housemates and their endless NBA2k battles and sometimes tears.  (if they could have actually played college ball maybe they wouldn’t be so sensitive!)

Tisch school of arts is offering an MFA in game design.  This past May marked the first graduating class. Rumor has it that an undergraduate program will start in the new year.  Frank Lantz, the director of the Game Center had this to say about the program to The Times,

“If you study history, if you study literature, if you study science and engineering, you’re not just studying for a job in that field, you’re using that as a structuring element to understand everything else,”

Sounds pretty poetic and a far-cry from the frat bros tournaments.  Lantz also said student would learn: the significance of game design as not only a potential career but as a way of thinking about the world.”

In a world that is becoming more and more digital, you can’t really argue with him.  Not to mention that a game programming job actually pays.
